Collaborations and Partnerships

We work on edges of technology characterized by convergence, interoperability, and global reach - where cooperation is as important as competition in driving us forward. You see that spirit of teamwork inside Sharp Labs and in our search for partnering synergies throughout the world. You see that in our collaboration within the public sector and with leading research universities in North America, Europe, Japan and Taiwan. These collaborations involve Sharp Labs researchers, students and professors, following a "triangle" model. You can also see our teamwork extending into the commercial sector, such as in our recent partnership with Nanosys in the nanotechnology arena, and with Virogenomics to bioengineer an advanced point-of-care clinical testing system.

One of Sharp Labs’ key responsibilities, in fact, is serving as Sharp Corporation’s liaison with other U.S.-based technology companies, from technology infrastructure innovators to consumer products manufacturers. Providing the market with innovative and compatible products can mean sharing development responsibilities with companies in some areas even as we compete with them in others.

Sharp Technology Ventures

In 2004, we developed a partner from within by founding Sharp Technology Ventures, to help cultivate customers for intellectual property we develop that falls outside Sharp Corporation’s own business strategy. Sharp Technology Ventures takes the lead in pursuing joint development, licensing, spinoffs and outside investment for these select breakthrough technologies.
