VICE PRESIDENT & CHIEF OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY PLANNING
Nobuyuki (Nobu) Matsumoto is Vice President at Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA) and leads SLA’s Advanced Technology Planning (ATP) team. Nobu strives to create a strong synergy between SLA’s U.S.-based R&D initiatives and Sharp's global strategy.
Nobu originally joined Sharp in 1984, and began his ex-pat assignment at SLA in 2015. Prior to joining SLA, Nobu worked out of the Sharp office in Arlington, Virginia since 2003, serving as a liaison for initiating collaborations between Sharp, Japan and venture businesses, universities, research institutes and national labs in the U.S. Nobu has an extensive background in materials and electrochemistry. Nobu previously conducted research for Sharp in Japan, particularly in the areas of compound semiconductors and monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs).
Nobu received his M.S. from Osaka University in Chemical Engineering. Nobu also received his B.S. in Engineering from Osaka University. Nobu’s outside interests include American landscape photography.
SENIOR DIRECTOR, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT & ENERGY SYSTEMS
Mike Detlef is Senior Director at Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA) and leads the Health, Environment, & Energy Systems (HEES) department. The group's primary focus areas include cloud-based health and wellness initiatives, smart energy solutions, and technologies to enable next generation mobile communication products. Mike also leads SLA's new business development activities.
At SLA, Mike also led Sharp’s U.S. cellular communication product development efforts which resulted in the successful commercial launch of dozens of complex, high volume cellular communication products for the U.S., European, Asian and Japanese markets.
Prior to joining SLA in 1997, Mike led medical diagnostic product software development at the former Ames division of Bayer Healthcare and, prior to that, contributed to early development of European digital cellular technology at Motorola. Mike is the recipient of 8 U.S. patents in the area of mobile computing and communication.
Mike received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Valparaiso University and is a state licensed, registered professional engineer. Outside the office, Mike is an avid maker and enjoys road and mountain biking, kayaking, and hiking.
SENIOR DIRECTOR, BUSINESS SOLUTION TECHNOLOGIES
Bryan Schacht is Senior Director at Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA) and leads the Business Solution Technologies (BST) Department. Working closely with Sharp Japan, U.S. and European subsidiaries, BST explores new business to business technologies and incubates the next growth areas for Sharp’s Business Systems Group sales channels.
Bryan joined SLA in 1998, establishing a second research site for SLA in Orange County, California. Prior to joining SLA, Bryan gained extensive experience in start-up companies including Kofax and FileNet. Bryan admires the entrepreneurial atmosphere of SLA and enjoys the opportunity to not only dream about “what could be”, but also to bring those ideas into reality.
Bryan received his Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and Bachelor’s degree in Regional Planning and Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Bryan enjoys flying private aircraft (instrument rated), motorcycles, snowboarding, Broadway plays, and just generally playing with new technology.
CHIEF IP COUNSEL & DIRECTOR OF THE U.S. IP CENTER (USIPC)
Dana Escobar is Chief IP Counsel and Director of the U.S. IP Center (USIPC) at Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA). The USIPC plays a critical role in the development and execution of global IP strategy for Sharp Corporation. USIPC focus areas include IP monetization, patent prosecution, portfolio management, and IP litigation. In addition to his globally-oriented USIPC responsibilities, Dana also leads U.S. IP generation for SLA-invented technologies.
Prior to joining SLA in 2015, Dana was Senior Director of IP Licensing for LSI Corporation. Dana also served previously as Licensing & Litigation Attorney for Discovision Associates, a subsidiary of Pioneer Electronics. Dana began his career as a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles County.
Dana received his JD from UCLA School of Law and his BA in political science from UCLA. Dana enjoys golfing, going to the gym, and playing poker.
SENIOR DIRECTOR, FINANCE & BUSINESS OPERATIONS
Kecia Andersen is Director of Finance and Business Operations at Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA). Kecia has responsibility for accounting and financial reporting, budget management, human resources, and general business operations.
Prior to joining SLA in 2011, Kecia was Corporate Controller at Vital Therapies, a company specializing in human cell-based liver therapy. Kecia previously worked at Intel Corporation, focusing on international accounting operations, and she has held managerial positions in accounting and finance in a number of different industries. Kecia also has experience in public accounting performing audit and tax work.
Kecia received her B.S. in Accounting from the University of Oregon and is an Oregon licensed CPA. Kecia enjoys getting outside to play golf or ski and enjoys watching or playing a variety of other sports.
